Foraging and Plant Identification: Walking the Land with Indigenous Knowledge

At One Arrow Cultural Lodge, the land is not just a place — it is a living teacher. Our Foraging and Plant Identification experience invites guests to walk the land with respect, guided by the traditional ecological knowledge of One Arrow First Nation.

Led by Indigenous knowledge keepers and land-based educators, this immersive program teaches participants how to identify, harvest, and honour the plants that have sustained our people for generations. From wild medicines like sage, sweetgrass, and yarrow, to edible plants like wild mint and berries, each discovery is a lesson in sustainability, stewardship, and cultural connection.

“These plants are our relatives,” explains one of the guides. “They’ve helped our people heal, nourish, and survive. When we walk with knowledge and gratitude, the land gives back.”

Participants will learn traditional harvesting protocols, seasonal cycles, and the spiritual and medicinal uses of each plant. The walks are conducted in harmony with the environment — ensuring respectful practices that protect and preserve plant life for future generations.

Whether you're a beginner with a curious heart or someone seeking to deepen your relationship with the land, this program offers a rare opportunity to learn Indigenous ways of seeing and knowing nature.

Sessions are open to individuals, families, and groups, and are seasonally offered based on plant availability. For details on upcoming Foraging and Plant Identification walks, please visit the One Arrow Cultural Lodge website or contact our team directly.
